Do I need HRT?

I have been going through this since I was 42 and I am now 53.  I have had every manifestation in varying degrees over this time period.  I have been told by my Dr. that I now have no estrogen showing up in my most recent blood work.  I would like to know if my body can do without the estrogen and progesterone or should I be taking some form of HRT, either progesterone cream alone or both in combination?

Your body can survive without estrogen and progesterone, although it never completely disappears from your body, only decreases. Many women opt to have hormone replacement therapy to eliminate some of the symptoms of menopause. There is also some evidence that hormone replacement therapy can help prevent bone loss and heart disease. However, it isn’t for everyone. It is important to consult your doctor before starting hormone replacement therapy, particularly if you have a personal history or family history of cancer.
