Length of menopause

Question:

How long will menopause usually last?

Name withheld

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Answer:

Perimenopause, which is the interval preceding menopause, can last six or more years. The term “menopause” refers to a specific event – the cessation of menstruation, which has been set at an interval of 12 months from your last period. It doesn’t “last” at all, in that it denotes a single event.
