Menopausal HeadachesCan you give me any advice on headaches associated with menopause? I have tried 2 medications; Climagest and Femoston. My headaches got worse and I have been taken off medication. I was thought to be progesterone intolerant. My GYN has recommended progesterone internally and estrogen gel. My headaches have lessened in the 10 days off the medication, but not gone completely. Is this a normal pattern and can you suggest ways to cope with the days I feel "spaced out" and have a headache? I am 42 and in good health.
- Fiona
Answer
Try this. Lie down in a dark, silent room and sleep. It's possible that what your body is telling you to do is nothing. Also, avoid alcohol and keep your body temperature cool. If you are on Hormone Replacement Therapy, headaches are a known side effect. For non-traditional help, make an appointment with a herbalist or a homeopathic doctor.

Still Fertile
I am menopausal and want to know if I can still conceive. I currently am not taking any birth control, having come off of the Depo Shot a couple of years ago. My OB-GYN said that I will still be fertile until I am 52. I am 47 now.

Answer
To be fully menopausal means that you have not had your period for 12 consecutive months. There is a home-use test that you can take to determine if you are perimenopausal or fully menopausal. The test will provide a Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) level reading so that you can determine what stage of "the Pause" you are at.
Spotting 1
I have been in my third year of menopause. For the last couple of weeks I have noticed blood spots in my underwear and when I wipe myself. What could this be?
- Valerie
Answer
Menopause is unpredictable. And bleeding can be caused by a number of things. Given you are asking (ie. your intuition has kicked in), it's always wise to get it checked out by your GYN.
Spotting 2
I went through menopause 7 years ago with no problems. I had a smear test a few months ago. In the last few days I have noticed very faint spotting. Is this normal?
